Job Summary: This seasonal position supports the maintenance and presentation of Door County’s public park system from April through October or November. Under direct supervision, individuals assist in cleaning, repairing, and maintaining park grounds and facilities to ensure safety, cleanliness, and a welcoming environment for visitors. Employees work in teams and are not permitted to operate commercial‑grade equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs daily cleaning of recreational facilities, including restrooms, pavilions, and public shelters.
  • Replenishes restroom supplies and removes waste materials in accordance with sanitary guidelines.
  • Operates non-commercial grounds maintenance equipment such as push mowers, garden tractors, weed eaters, and blowers.
  • Conducts general landscape upkeep, including weeding, pruning, watering, and clearing brush or debris.
  • Assists with setting up, maintaining, and taking down equipment for park events and recreational activities.
  • Completes routine repairs and painting tasks on park fixtures and equipment.
  • Provides general directional assistance and information to park patrons and ensures rules and regulations are communicated respectfully.
  • Participates in dock system installation and removal under supervision.
  • May be trained to operate light‑duty machinery such as riding mowers or small tractor/loaders within safety guidelines.

    Required Education & Experience
    • Minimum age of 16 at time of employment.
    • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to maintain it.
    Preferred Education & Experience
    • Previous experience with outdoor maintenance, landscaping, or custodial work.
    • Familiarity with park or public facility operations.

    Physical & Work Environment Requirements: Work is performed primarily outdoors (approximately 95% of the time), with regular exposure to weather conditions, noise, and environmental factors such as dust, fumes, and mechanical equipment. Physical activities include bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for long periods, and operating light machinery. Employees may be exposed to minor hazards mitigated by adherence to safety practices and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

    Work schedules vary by assignment but often include early mornings, weekends, and holidays, with occasional overtime depending on seasonal needs and weather conditions.
