US Navy Oceanography officers (METOC) are geophysical experts who apply meteorology, oceanography, hydrography, bathymetry, geophysics, and precise time and astrometry to define the environment for Naval operations.
They lead environmental data collection and analysis to support fleet and joint operations, oversee teams from small detachments to large commands, and serve as the one‑of‑one geophysical expert at an operational command.
