Position Summary
Sunrise Telecom, Inc. is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Fiber Splicer 2 to support telecommunications infrastructure projects. This position is responsible for independently performing fiber optic splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance in both aerial and underground environments. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of fiber optic systems and experience working in field construction environments.
The Fiber Splicer 2 serves as a key contributor to network quality, project completion, and customer satisfaction.
- Perform fusion splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables
- Read and interpret fiber matrices, splice schematics, and construction prints
- Conduct OTDR, power meter, and continuity testing to ensure network integrity
- Troubleshoot and resolve fiber optic network issues and outages
- Install and maintain splice enclosures, terminals, and related equipment
- Work independently in aerial, underground, and indoor fiber environments
- Ensure all work meets company standards, customer specifications, and safety regulations
- Maintain detailed splice documentation and test results
- Coordinate with project managers, field supervisors, and construction crews
- Operate company vehicles and telecommunications equipment safely
- Assist in training and mentoring entry-level technicians as needed
- Participate in emergency restoration and on-call work when required
- Previous fiber splicing experience required
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic construction and telecommunications systems
- Experience using fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and related testing equipment
- Ability to read and interpret construction prints and splice documentation
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver's license required
- CDL preferred but not required
- Industry certifications are a plus
- 1-3+ years of fiber splicing experience preferred
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods
- Ability to distinguish color-coded fiber cables
- Outdoor field environment in varying weather conditions
- May require overtime, weekends, travel, and on-call work
- Safety-sensitive position requiring adherence to company and customer safety policies
