Position: 3-11 RN SUPERVISOR

The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for the total care of residents on a designated shift, managing nursing staff, overseeing resident care, and maintaining compliance with facility policies and procedures.

Major Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform admissions, discharges, transfers and re‑admissions to the facility.
  • Complete admissions arriving prior to the end of your shift, including the RN assessment, before leaving.
  • Promote resident care by developing day‑to‑day administration and long‑term planning, guiding and developing staff, and collaborating with physicians and clinical staff to ensure each resident receives the best care and service.
  • Complete Resident Roster and Resident Status/Condition Report and turn it into the DON each Tuesday.
  • Complete Dietary Recommendation Report and return it to the DON within one week of receipt.
  • Complete Pharmacy report and return it to the DON within two weeks of receipt.
  • Check and report lab values to physicians and file them to charts.
  • Maintain lab schedule.
  • Assist with weight‑loss recommendations and special‑needs meetings.
  • Ensure snacks are passed.
  • Make rounds with physicians as needed.
  • Perform in‑service and employee training as needed.
  • Turn in monthly QA on the first Wednesday of each month.
  • Assist with lunch meal on your assigned QA team.
  • Complete weekly QA rounds.
  • Follow‑up to ensure RNs/LPNs are performing essential duties, supervising CNAs completing orders, and are compliant with med pass.
  • Carry out all orders received to completion.
  • Write orders.
  • Fax orders to pharmacy.
  • Transcribe orders to MAR.
  • Chart in nurses’ notes.
  • Notify responsible parties as needed.
  • Prepare 24‑hour report.
  • Give complete shift report to the oncoming supervisor.
  • Make a complete set of compliance rounds on the halls at least once per shift.
  • Observe monthly medication pass on RNs/LPNs by making a random selection.
  • Assist LPN staff with emergency and acute resident episodes, as well as staffing supervising needs.
  • Act as liaison with resident families and sponsors.
  • Monitor for safety issues and accident prevention.
  • Observe and direct staff in infection control issues and compliance.
  • Provide behavior monitoring and intervention with residents.
  • Notify the DON and/or Administrator of issues requiring assistance, such as accidents, reports of alleged abuse, inadequate staffing, or problems with employees’ families.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and a supervisory role model.
  • Ensure resident care is performed to facility standards such as bathing, grooming, positioning incontinence care, catheter care, etc.
  • Monitor response to call lights.
  • Coordinate emergency response to fire, disaster, weather, etc.
  • Monitor employees for proper use of body mechanics.
  • Complete employee accident reports and follow procedure.
  • Monitor med rooms for cleanliness, compliance, and that doors are locked.
  • Perform staffing duties as assigned and needed.
  • Complete QA monthly assignments.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s QAPI program for the nursing service department.
  • Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Look for and share with leadership ideas for improvement in the organization.
  • Perform specialized clinical services as required such as IV therapy, management of CVL, venipuncture, CPR, etc.
  • Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality.
  • Follow the code of ethics in procurement, handling of confidential information, and personal conduct; maintain the confidentiality of all resident information, including protected health care information.
  • Monitor staff knocking on doors, utilizing privacy curtains, and demonstrating respect by correct name use; preserve resident rights and dignity.
  • Monitor soiled and clean utility rooms.
  • Ensure hallway clear of clutter.
  • Maintain a quiet professional environment.
  • Ensure meal service is performed without problems and all residents are assisted as needed; any resident consuming less than 50% is offered a substitute for a meal.
