Shipper, Manufacturing Production, Material Handler

Overview & Responsibilities

To receive incoming or outgoing materials, preserve, pack, and load material and equipment for shipment.

Hand tools, scales, rulers, hammers, pry bars, wire cutters, hand truck, telephone, radio, calipers, electrical/pneumatic power tools, strapping machines, saws, brushes, squares, rollers, pinch bars, paint, ink, heating gun, plates, foam packing, jib hoist, pendant control crane, overhead crane, spreader bars, heavy rigging, fork truck, scissor lift, and computer.

• Observe all plant safety rules and procedures.
• Receive instructions from supervision.
• Load and unload material inside and outside from trucks, wagons, railroad cars, identify and check material with transportation bill.
• Prepare material for storage and shipping, including cleaning, applying proper coatings and protection compounds as required by shipping specifications.
• Determine type and size of container or skid to be used from measurements taken, make sketches, consider product damageability and whether material is for domestic or foreign shipment and length of storage requirements.
• Select or construct proper container or skid using proper blocking and packing material. Seal container, weigh and record weight on container.
• Affix proper general order number and load container into shipping vehicle using proper shipping methods and procedures.
• Operate jib hoist, pendant control cranes, overhead cranes, riding fork truck, and scissor lift.
• Perform physical count, identify parts by shop order and grouping for final packaging method and crate design.
• Maintain good housekeeping by placing tools, equipment and material in the proper place.
• Obtain lumber and supplies as necessary and work anywhere in the plant as assigned by supervision.
• Seal peel and tectyl coats parts as required.
• Operate foam machine and various forms of packing as required.
• Perform coating and preservation on parts as required by customer and shipping specifications.
• Ensure that appropriate Material Safety Data Sheet is shipped with orders of liquids, powders and pastes (“x” parts) as specified by Safety Department.
• Apply protective cover to finished units as required.
• Design and build heavy skids and lids for all Elliott Group products.
• Set up, direct and operate cranes for heavy and critical lifts.
• Assemble/disassemble heavy haul trucks.
• Report defective material, equipment and safety issues/concerns to supervisor.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am–3pm), 2nd (3pm–11pm), and 3rd (11pm–7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to realignment.
• Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
