Machinist
We're looking for a skilled machinist who can do it all—layout, machining, sub-assembly, and dimensional checking. You'll be the one who takes a drawing or sketch and turns it into a precision part or sub-assembly. If you take pride in accuracy and like working with a variety of equipment, this role offers plenty of variety and challenge.
You'll work with a broad range of machines and tools, including:
- Layout machines
- Vertical boring mills (manual and CNC controlled)
- Horizontal boring mills
- Planer milling machines
- Radial and angular drill presses
- Measuring devices, hand tools, fixtures, and deburring tools
- Pedestal tool grinders and tap disintegrator
- Jib hoist, overhead crane, forklift trucks
- Personal computer
Day-to-day tasks include:
- Layout & Setup:
Work from and interpret prints, drawings, and work orders; make sketches as needed; obtain drawings, tools, and fixtures from the tool crib; pull necessary material from stock; lay out castings, forgings, plate fabrications, and machined parts; mark angles, radii, tapers, bolt circles, etc., and center punch as needed; paint guidelines, dimension figures, and instructions on material for downstream operations; stencil or stamp parts for identification;
go into other areas for layout work when required. - Machining:
Set up machines by installing and adjusting tools, clamps, and fixtures; position and align parts; set proper feeds and speeds; insert tape or operate manually; press buttons to initiate tape control cycles; perform required machining operations; monitor spindle speed; verify micrometer accuracy; check parts with measuring devices to ensure operations are complete. - Finishing & Assembly:
Assemble and disassemble as required; deburr all machined areas (including simultaneously with machine operations); submit parts for inspection as required; use grinding attachments; grind tools from blanks; adjust, change, and dress tools; operate a tap disintegrator as needed. - Material Handling & Safety:
Use hoist, crane, and forklift truck to obtain and move materials; perform crane hooking and unhooking; work from ladders and scaffolds when needed; lubricate machines; wipe and oil machine ways; perform routine preventive maintenance; keep tools, material, equipment, and work area organized; report defective material or equipment to supervision; follow all safety rules; report production count, time, and identifying data as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able and willing to work 1st (7am–3pm), 2nd (3pm–11pm), and 3rd (11pm–7am) shifts. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to realignment.
- Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
