Mechanical Engineer

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance inspections, troubleshooting and repairs on HVAC systems, generators, elevators, electrical and Building Management Systems (BMS) to ensure safety, efficiency and continuous operation.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and extend asset lifespan.
• Test, maintain and ensure the functionality of all safety equipment including fire alarms, emergency lighting and fire suppression systems.
• Coordinate with external contractors and suppliers for specialized maintenance or repair tasks.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports and equipment logs, ensuring all work is properly documented.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to support uninterrupted operations.
• Manage inventory of maintenance tools, spare parts and supplies to ensure availability and cost control.
• Supervise and support maintenance staff, provide technical guidance, on-job training and conduct annual performance evaluations.
• Develop and implement maintenance policies, procedures and schedules in compliance with university safety and environmental regulations.
• Prepare operational and performance reports related to maintenance activities.
• Oversee daily departmental operations ensuring effective workflow and task prioritization.
• Implement energy-efficient maintenance practices and contribute to sustainability initiatives.

• Guide the implementation of risk management across DAH.
• Communicate key risk issues to the Departmental and Divisional Quality Assurance Committees and the Risk and Crisis Management Unit as needed.
• Report progress of risks to the Committees and Unit as needed.
• Allocate resources for risk management.
• Foster a positive risk-aware culture across DAH.
• Ensure new and emerging risks are identified, treated, monitored, reported, escalated and closed in line with DAH procedures.
• Ensure that risk control activities in the employee's area of responsibility are implemented.
• Ensure staff members are aware of expectations in relation to risk management by providing training.

Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance and facilities management.
