Role Summary

The First Line Sales Manager (FLSM) coaches, leads, develops and guides the sales team to drive performance, generate clinical demand for our brands, and build strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including MDTS, DMUs and KOLs.

Responsibilities Coaching Medical Representatives

Coach sales team members on patient‑centric selling capabilities; determine coaching frequency per SFE target; communicate medical knowledge and customer expectations; assess development levels; conduct coaching sessions; follow up on intervention success; plan additional activities.

Recruiting & Hiring Medical Representatives

Contribute to the sales recruitment strategy; define candidate profile (geography, education, language, background); select and assess Med Reps with HR; build networks to identify qualified talent; promote company values; provide inspirational leadership.

Lead District Team

Lead the district team to exceed sales forecasts and call execution goals; identify individual customer needs; set expectations and plans; reward and recognize strong performance; develop reps for higher roles; proactively anticipate and address obstacles; comply with regulations on interactions with healthcare professionals and sample distribution.

Customer Relationship Management

Maintain close contact with KOLs and key customers; influence purchase decisions; collaborate across functional areas; serve as a liaison between the sales force and cross‑functional teams; influence business partners and develop sales goals.

Performance Management & Monitoring

Identify training needs and career development opportunities; work with HR and training; assess progress toward goals; conduct quarterly check‑ins; accelerate development of top talent; lead high‑performance team using IDP; set and manage territory goals; analyze decisions and risks; coach for trade‑off decisions; monitor KPI achievement.

Area Management

Strategically decide on resource allocation; influence business partners on sales goal development; review planned activities and budgets; create business cases for investments; ensure optimal territory design and distribution.

Sales Management

Develop TAP (sales analysis, business planning and people development action plan); forecast sales monthly, quarterly and annually; allocate sales targets; manage resources.

Corporate Responsibilities

Maintain highest ethical standards; adhere to AstraZeneca Code of Ethics; follow local legislation and corporate policies; report health, safety or conflict of interest matters as required.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, including at least 1 year as a sales manager.
  • Proven strong performance record; entrepreneurial and collaborative mindset.
  • Solid leadership and people‑management skills.
  • Planning, organization, analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • For internal candidates: 3+ years total in the pharmaceutical industry, 2+ years at AstraZeneca, and 1+ year of people‑management experience.
