Job Description Field Service Engineer – Commercial Vehicles & Trucks Job Purpose

To provide technical and field service support for commercial vehicles and trucks by diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues at customer sites, workshops, and vehicle locations. The Field Service Engineer will support service operations, ensure effective troubleshooting and repairs, and act as a technical link between the company, workshops, customers, and the manufacturer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide on-site technical support for commercial vehicles, trucks, and other assigned vehicles.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, and drivability issues.
  • Conduct field inspections and technical investigations for vehicle complaints and failures.
  • Support workshops and technicians in identifying the root cause of technical problems.
  • Attend breakdowns and critical technical cases when required.
  • Analyze vehicle symptoms, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), test results, and repair history.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to perform accurate vehicle diagnosis.
  • Provide technical guidance and repair recommendations to workshop technicians.
  • Support the resolution of repeated and difficult-to-diagnose vehicle failures.
  • Perform technical inspections before and after major repairs.
  • Conduct road tests and functional tests when required.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports for major failures, repeated complaints, and field cases.
  • Document findings, root causes, troubleshooting steps, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with the Warranty team regarding technical findings and warranty-related cases.
  • Support warranty investigations by providing technical evidence and failure analysis.
  • Escalate complex or unresolved technical cases to the manufacturer and follow up until resolution.
  • Review and implement manufacturer Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), Service Campaigns, Recalls, and technical instructions.
  • Support workshops during new model introductions and major technical issues.
  • Provide technical training and on-the-job guidance to technicians when required.
  • Monitor recurring technical issues and identify trends across the vehicle fleet.
  • Provide feedback to the manufacturer regarding recurring failures and product quality concerns.
  • Support the development and improvement of repair procedures and troubleshooting methods.
  • Ensure all field activities are completed safely and according to company and manufacturer standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of field visits, technical cases, repairs, and recommendations.
Required Technical Experience

The candidate must have strong hands-on experience in commercial vehicles and trucks, including:

  • Diesel engines and diesel engine management systems.
  • Commercial vehicles and heavy‑duty trucks.
  • Diesel fuel injection and fuel systems.
  • Engine cooling, lubrication, and air intake systems.
  • Manual and automated/automatic transmissions.
  • Differential, driveline, and 4WD systems where applicable.
  • Brake systems, including air brake systems.
  • Steering and suspension systems.
  • Vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
  • CAN Bus and vehicle communication systems.
  • Automotive diagnostic scanners and OEM diagnostic software.
  • Troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle failures.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automotive Technology.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in automotive technical support, field service, dealership, fleet, or commercial vehicle operations.
  • Mandatory experience with commercial vehicles, trucks, and diesel engines.
  • Experience working with heavy‑duty or commercial vehicle manufacturers is highly preferred.
  • Strong practical experience in vehicle diagnosis and troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting workshops and technicians.
  • Experience dealing with customers and technical complaints is preferred.
  • Valid Saudi driving license is required.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within Saudi Arabia.
