The Department of Social Services partners with families and communities to protect children, rehabilitate youth, and move families to self-sufficiency so that Missourians can lead safe, healthy and productive lives.
This is a professional position in the field of budget and analysis (this is not an accounting position), requiring a high degree of judgement and initiative in completing assigned duties. The person in this position is vital to the Department of Social Services’ (DSS) budget preparation and fiscal note response. You will gain experience, skills, and advanced knowledge of the ins and outs of state government budgeting and the legislative process.
Whatyou’ll do
- Analyzing assigned division’s budget requests; making entries and running reports in the MOVERS budgeting system, providing technical advice and assisting the division in the preparation of budgets, and providing recommendations on budget performance measures.
- Researching and analyzing topics, presenting recommendations to DSS management regarding important budget and policy matters.
- Tracking progress on assigned division’s budget and maintaining Excel spreadsheets to balance each step of the budget cycle.
- Generating and maintaining a variety of budget and expenditure tracking reports using the state financial system, Excel, and Access.
- Preparing and monitoring assigned division’s coding sheets for payment documents and completing necessary SAM II budgetary documents as needed.
Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
Preferred QualificationsThe person in this position should be organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to change. Must have excellent time management and (written and verbal) communication skills and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and vendors. Ability to work independently in assessing and managing priorities. Ability to analyze facts, apply identified parameters, and draw conclusions. Experience with computers and desktop applications, including Microsoft Office products.
Knowledge of SAM II and Excel formulas preferred.
