The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed salary range listed above.
This position will be located at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City, MO. 65102
. The hours will be Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The audit program is dedicated to protecting Missouri’s natural resources while promoting an environmentally sound economy. We offer a working environment that emphasizes professional development, customer service, and teamwork. This position supports the agency in the completion of compliance, financial, performance, and operational audits. The position will regularly interact with executive staff and will deliver thoughtful recommendations while identifying and understanding relevant policy.
- Advocate the core mission of the agency and strategic priorities.
- Maintain working knowledge of auditing standards, principles of accounting, state/federal laws, and state/department policies and procedures.
- Work as a team in the completion of compliance, performance, financial and/or operational audits. As experience is gained, the ability to work independently and to take initiative in completing work assignments is expected.
- Prepare and assist in audit planning, which includes developing audit procedures, gathering information, scheduling fieldwork, indexing work papers, writing reports, and meeting with management and auditees.
- Continually look for efficiencies while also maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in the performance of duties.
- Maintain familiarity with administrative processes, systems, and issues common to state government including but not limited to receipts, disbursements, fixed assets, inventory, grants, etc.
- Participate in regular performance conversations to discuss expectations, performance and professional development opportunities, and goals.
To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills
:
- The applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 24 earned credit hours in accounting. At least three years of auditing experience is preferred but not required. (Additional related education, certification, or experience may substitute for education/experience)
- Strong analytical thinking, planning, and project management.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to convey audit results.
- Working knowledge of accounting and auditing standards and procedures.
