ABOUT THE JOB

MU Health Care is seeking a dedicated Reimbursement Assistant for its Therapy Services team. The role involves meticulously extracting data, applying ICD-9 CM and CPT procedures for accurate billing, coordinating billing and collections with external agencies, auditing potential issues, and acting as a liaison between departments and payers. Strong interpretation of healthcare documentation is essential to ensure accurate claims.

DETAILED

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Assist in training sessions for residents and staff on Medicare billing, federal laws, regulations, and clinical documentation standards.
  • Coordinate all aspects of professional and technical billings/collections with appropriate departments within the university system and outside agencies.
  • Screen medical records for possible claims related liability issues and assist in auditing medical records to document and identify potential problems with the billing and reimbursement process.
  • Act as a liaison between third party payers and assigned departments to resolve audit discrepancies.
  • Screen medical records for all diagnoses and procedures; assign codes according to the appropriate classification system for inpatient, outpatient and professional encounters to assure appropriate reimbursement is billed.
  • Interpret healthcare documentation to determine principal diagnosis and procedure.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of medical terminology.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s degree (or equivalent credit hours) in medical coding, medical office technology, or another medical related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two (2) years of medical related experience including one (1) year of medical coding experience.
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
