This position will be located at 1730 East Elm Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101.

  • Serve as primary contact and expert in the program regarding household hazardous wastes.
  • Aid the general public regarding recycling and management options for household hazardous wastes such as electronics, paints, oil, antifreeze and household cleaners.
  • Coordinate efforts for the Christmas tree light recycling effort annually.
  • Attend seminars and conferences occasionally throughout the year.
  • Assist with Hazardous waste enforcement cases and inspections.
To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:
  • Hazardous Materials:
    Knowledge of hazardous materials and waste and their uses, interactions, dangers, production, handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Oral and Written Communication:
    Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, consider the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Requirements Analysis:
    Knowledge of the principles and methods to identify, analyze, specify, design, and manage functional and infrastructure requirements; includes translating functional requirements into technical requirements used for logical design or presenting alternative technologies or approaches.
  • Planning and Evaluating:
    Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
  • Learning:
    Uses efficient learning techniques to acquire and apply new knowledge and skills; uses training, feedback, or other opportunities for self-learning and development.
Equivalent To Those Typically Gained By
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 0-4 years of relevant experience;
    Preferred degree programs include any of the following:
    Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, Geology, Forestry, Soil Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, or a closely related field. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)
