Responsible for assisting with bus pick ups and drop offs as well as riding on the bus route for various schools or school districts.

• Support the transition of students from home to school and school to home. Ensure the school bus driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the vehicle.
• Help with emergency evacuation procedures and respond to emergencies as directed by the company and school district protocols.
• Complete the initial check of student passengers to ensure they are in the correct safety equipment.
• Follow all Individualized Education Plans (IEP) requirements and compliance related to transportation.
• Ensure student passengers are properly and safely secured in seat belt locks, harnesses, wheelchair supports or any other special equipment.
• Complete required paperwork, such as daily attendance and bus behavior reports.
• Maintain the ability to monitor and control student behavior on the bus including awareness of and adaptation to the special medical, physical, communicative, or emotional needs of individual student passengers.
• Recognize, model, and reinforce positive, desired behaviors, creating a positive, safe, and welcoming environment of the vehicle.
• Communicate and refer behaviors to appropriate school district personnel, bus driver, and Terminal Manager.
• Maintain effective working relationships with the bus driver, school district personnel, and parents/guardians.
• Participate in training as directed by the Terminal Manager.
• Create a favorable and professional impression on students, parents, community, and co‑workers.
• Maintain confidentiality of student/family information in verbal, written, and electronic communication.
• Refer confidential and/or behavioral information to the appropriate Dousman Transport Company personnel.
• Follow safe practices and adhere to all applicable safety standards.
• Provide on‑the‑job training to new employees.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the company.
• Cover or perform temporary or part‑time jobs or duties on request that the company needs to have performed.

• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required, normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to train safely to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment.
• Ability to interact positively with all passengers, including students with disabilities or special needs.
• Ability to physically perform the job's essential functions including occasional to frequent walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
• Regular attendance and punctuality required.
• Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must complete a background check, physical and tuberculosis test, and fitness for duty/drug screen.
• Prior experience working in childcare and/or with children with special needs is a plus.

Work involves assisting passengers with a variety of physical and/or other special needs in all weather conditions. Conditions are normal for a School Bus Aide.
