SUMMARY
The CDL Driver/Shop Assistant is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of materials, equipment, and tools to and from job sites and company facilities. This role supports field operations by ensuring timely deliveries, maintaining vehicles in DOT-compliant condition, and assisting with loading, unloading, and general labor tasks as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Operate commercial motor vehicles safely and in compliance with all DOT, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Transport materials, tools, and equipment to job sites, vendors, and company locations.
- Load and unload trucks, including securing loads properly to prevent shifting or damage.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate DOT logs, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
- Coordinate with supervisors, mechanic, and shop personnel regarding equipment needs, maintenance, and repairs.
- Follow all safety guidelines and actively promote a safe work environment for yourself and crew members.
- Assist in the field or shop during downtime, including general labor, cleanup, and organization.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned vehicles and work areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain a valid CDL (Class A or B, as required).
- Comply with all DOT regulations, including hours of service, inspections, and training requirements.
- Ensure vehicles are properly registered, insured, and maintained.
- Report accidents, incidents, or violations immediately in accordance with company policy.
- Valid CDL with acceptable driving record.
- Knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and safe hauling practices preferred.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong attention to safety, detail, and compliance.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules, job sites, and work demands.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to tolerate noise; hearing protection provided.
- Safety glasses
- Steel or composite-toe boots
- Rubber boots (as required)
- Long pants and appropriate work shirts
- Hard hat and gloves as job tasks dictate
- Regular travel within a designated service area (up to approximately 75 miles).
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and current insurance to operate company vehicles.
