Forest Soil Fieldwork Temporary Technician
The Markewitz Forest Soils and Water laboratory is seeking a temporary technical paraprofessional to assist with fieldwork supporting a scientific research effort. The position involves traveling to South and Central Georgia to collect plant material and soils over the course of one week of fieldwork.
Key Responsibilities- Collect data/samples in the field (95% of time).
- Organize and process samples upon return to the laboratory (5% of time).
- Travel to South and Central Georgia; conduct overnight trips as part of a fieldwork team.
- Work outdoors in cold and potentially inclement weather.
- Carry materials up to 30 lbs over short distances and perform moderate physical labor.
- Undergraduate coursework in forestry, soil science, agronomy, ecology, or related fields.
- Preferred experience collecting data or samples for research or laboratory work in forest environments.
- Ability to work outdoors in cold and potentially inclement weather.
- Willingness to travel overnight for 3–4 days as part of a team.
- Physical stamina to bend, stand repeatedly, and carry up to 30 lbs for a ½ mile.
