Vaco has partnered with a company looking for an EHS Specialist to join their team!
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist works under the direction of the EHS & Training Manager and within the Human Resources department to support the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs. This role is responsible for helping prevent unsafe working conditions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a strong culture of safety throughout the plant. The EHS Specialist serves as a subject matter expert on safety and environmental practices and partners with leadership, employees, and external agencies to mitigate risk and maintain compliance at all regulatory levels.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety programs.
- Support efforts to prevent workplace injuries and environmental incidents through proactive hazard identification and mitigation.
- Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert on safety standards, environmental regulations, and best practices.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments on the plant floor.
- Partner with management to ensure adherence to company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Lead environmental compliance activities including reporting, documentation, and regulatory submissions.
- Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents, near misses, and environmental events; recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and external safety resources as needed.
- Support and facilitate safety training programs focused on compliance, behavior-based safety, and culture improvement.
- Maintain accurate safety records, training documentation, and compliance logs.
- Promote a positive safety culture through employee engagement and continuous improvement initiatives.
- 2-5+ years of experience in EHS, safety compliance, or environmental programs within a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Strong communication and training facilitation skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, leadership, and external agencies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Professional certifications (CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM) are a plus.
- Frequent presence on the plant floor.
- Exposure to typical manufacturing conditions, including noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.
- May require occasional off-hours support for incident response or compliance matters.
