Injection Molding Process Engineer
Job Description
This role leads injection molding process engineering activities for a manufacturing organization focused on medical devices and other high-reliability products. The Injection Molding Process Engineer owns process validation and risk documentation, supports new product introduction (NPI), and ensures robust, efficient, and repeatable molding processes from concept through production. This position collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to develop tooling, validate equipment, and introduce new technologies that achieve best-cost targets while maintaining high quality and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
+ Own the injection molding process validation plan and maintain all associated process risk documentation.
+ Support new product introduction (NPI) activities for injection molding, from concept through launch.
+ Set up injection molding machines, optimize process parameters, and troubleshoot issues to ensure stable production.
+ Develop and create sample parts and tools to support process development and validation.
+ Identify required tools, manage tool procurement, and ensure tools are ordered and received on time.
+ Complete molding production runs and perform thorough validation of each run.
+ Lead early equipment management activities, including workstation design, material presentation, standard work, and single-piece flow.
+ Collaborate with product development teams to ensure design and process capability are fully validated before product launch.
+ Develop test fixtures and prototype tooling to support manufacturing line development and process improvement.
+ Define and control production processes, including tooling and equipment selection, setup, and optimization.
+ Validate design specifications and confirm effective shop floor application of new products, tools, and equipment.
+ Drive the identification and implementation of affordable error-proofing and automation technologies for molding operations.
+ Work closely with operations teams to ensure facilities, equipment, and processes are ready for new product launches.
+ Support the development, implementation, and use of production and control-related processes and documentation, including APQP, Control Plans, Qualification Plans, Engineering Change, Deviations, Corrective and Preventative Actions, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, FAI, DFMA, and SPC tools.
+ Identify, evaluate, and establish new processes and technologies needed to achieve best-cost and quality targets.
+ Manage multiple concurrent projects and deliverables in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality and documentation.
+ Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to align on requirements, resolve issues, and support continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
+ At least 8 years of experience in process engineering for injection molding within automotive, medical device, or aerospace industries.
+ Plastics injection molding, including molding machine setup, optimization, and troubleshooting.
+ Hands-on experience with scientific molding practices and the ability to discuss real-world examples of injection molding projects.
+ Demonstrated experience with equipment design and validation for injection molding and related manufacturing processes.
+ Proven experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) and new product development in a manufacturing environment.
+
Experience with new tool validation, tool procurement, and tool design awareness for injection molding.
+ Solid understanding of manufacturing and process engineering principles, including cross-functional collaboration with product development, operations, and quality.
+ Proficiency with APQP, Control Plans, Qualification Plans, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, FAI, DFMA, SPC tools, and related quality and process documentation.
+ Lean and Six Sigma experience, with Green Belt level preferred.
+ Detail-oriented approach with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
+ Track record of success in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities and timelines.
+ Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication abilities, with the capability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization as well as with customers and suppliers.

Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in plastics engineering, manufacturing engineering, and process engineering for high-reliability industries such as medical devices, automotive, aerospace, electronics, or equipment design.
+ Exposure to medical device manufacturing environments and associated standards and documentation practices.
+ Tool procurement and design awareness for injection molding, including coordination with toolmakers and suppliers.

Experience with Solid Works and other CAD design tools for reviewing and supporting tooling and equipment designs.
