Position: Pre-Op / Post-Op RN

PRE-OP / POST-OP NURSE

Job Summary:

To provide planned and appropriately skilled nursing care for patients during the pre-op and post-op phase of the surgery process.

This is a Full-Time position.

Schedule is 4 days/week (Tues-Fri) 6:30am-4:30pm

Professional Requirements:
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Follows AORN standards.
  • Maintains neat and clean work area.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Completes work within designated times. Monitors timecard for any irregularities and obtains approval for any overtime from DON prior to working it.
  • Attends 80% of staff meetings annually, reads and signs staff meetings if absent.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility.
  • Completes mandatory annual education as scheduled and in a timely fashion.
  • Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized clock system correctly.
Regulatory Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current State license.
  • Postoperative or critical care experience preferred.
  • Ophthalmic surgery experience desirable.
  • Certified in CPR. ACLS certification desirable and mandatory for all full-time positions.
Skills:
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Knowledgeable in skills of patient and guest relations.
  • Ability to interact professionally with physicians and co-workers.
  • Basic EKG monitoring, proficient in-patient assessment skills.
  • Proficient in IV placements and knowledgeable in medications.
  • Knowledgeable of patient care planning and legalities.
Duties:
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; proper techniques and following facility policies, procedures and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
  • Becomes trained in all areas of pre and post-surgical care of patients.
  • Opens/closes work area per protocol on a daily basis.
  • Admits and discharges patients using a primary care model.
  • Introduces self to patients while using appropriate volume and tone of voice.
  • Coordinates patient care to provide a safe and comfortable patient experience.
  • Reviews patients’ medical records and maintains continuity among nursing staff and physicians by accurately documenting and communicating all pertinent information, irregularities, actions, changes in condition and continuing needs of the patient.
  • Accurately documents patient care services in the patient’s medical record.
  • Establishing personal rapport with patients and their family/significant other(s).
  • Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patient and family to understand surgery, medications, and discharge care and instructions; and answering questions.
  • Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
