Education/

Experience:

Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 5 years’ experience in operating heavy equipment. Equivalent combination of education, skills, training and experience may be considered. Must possess or obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months.

Position Summary

Operates heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and other pieces of equipment. Clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. Perform daily safety and maintenance checks. Meet construction deadlines while maintaining safe equipment operations.

Maintain heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required. Clean equipment, ensure heavy equipment is stored safely and securely, advise the supervisor of any maintenance or repair requirements, and participate in routine maintenance.

Operate the following equipment:
Backhoe, Excavator, High lift, Bulldozer, Skid Steer, grader, and other equipment as needed.

Assist and perform pipe lining operations (Thermoform).

Use a mobile handheld device to enter work order information and use the mapping system to complete various tasks.

Perform related duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and performs necessary repairs in a timely manner. Ability to read blueprints, specifications, tape measures, and technical drawings.

Safety and Security – Sets up and maintains safety traffic controls around the active work area. Complies with relevant OSHA safety standards, including identification of precautions for and emergency response to biological, chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards. Observes safety and security precautions and procedures;
Reports potentially unsafe conditions;
Uses equipment, tools and materials properly.

- Ability to read and interpret documents safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

- Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness;

Qualifications

Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum 5 years’ experience operating heavy equipment. Equivalent combination of education, skills, training and experience may be considered.

Licenses:
Possess a valid driver’s license. Must possess or obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months.

  • Ability and willingness to perform work in a variety of wastewater and collection systems construction settings.
  • Ability to work out of doors in all weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift at least 80 lbs. (average weight of a manhole cover)
  • Climb up and down stairs/ladders.
  • Operate a variety of power tools and heavy equipment.
