Mechanical Engineer (Mid-Advanced Level - Healthcare Projects)

Job Description

This role is for a mid-advanced level Mechanical Engineer with 10-15+ years of experience who leads the full mechanical engineering design process for building systems, particularly within healthcare facilities. You will take projects from concept and schematic design through detailed construction documents and provide construction administration support, with a strong focus on HVAC systems and compliance with ASHRAE standards and mechanical codes.

The position offers a hybrid work schedule and the opportunity to mentor junior engineers while contributing to complex healthcare infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

+ Lead the mechanical engineering design process for building systems from concept and schematic design through full construction document development.

+ Develop, review, and coordinate mechanical design documents, including drawings, specifications, schedules, and calculations for healthcare projects.

+ Provide construction administration support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and supporting field coordination during construction.

+ Design and coordinate HVAC systems and related mechanical infrastructure for healthcare facilities, including hospital patient floors, procedure suites, and equipment suites.

+ Ensure all mechanical designs comply with applicable ASHRAE standards, mechanical codes, and healthcare-specific codes and guidelines.

+ Identify and resolve design and coordination issues within the mechanical engineering team and with other disciplines.

+ Mentor junior engineers through the full design process, providing guidance, technical review, and feedback to support their development.

+ Collaborate closely with project teams to manage design schedules and support adherence to project budgets.

+ Use Revit and AutoCAD to produce and update mechanical drawings and models, ensuring accuracy and coordination with other trades.

+ Support infrastructure-focused projects by developing robust mechanical solutions for building systems and utilities.

+ Participate in coordination meetings in the office and at project sites as needed to ensure successful project delivery.

+ Document and communicate healthcare project experience, including specific project types and responsibilities, for internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Skills

+ 10-15+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including significant involvement in building systems design.

+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related mechanical engineering discipline.

+ Professional Engineer (PE) license.

+ Proven healthcare project experience, including hospital patient floors, procedure suites, equipment suites, and working knowledge of hospital codes.

+ Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards and mechanical codes and certifications relevant to building systems.

+ Extensive experience and knowledge of HVAC systems design and operation for commercial and healthcare facilities.

+ Proficiency with Revit for mechanical design and modeling.

+ Experience using AutoCAD for mechanical drafting and documentation.

+ Demonstrated ability to manage the mechanical design process from concept through construction documents and construction administration.

+ Strong communication skills with the ability to identify and address issues within the mechanical engineering team.

+ Mentorship skills with experience guiding junior engineers through the full design lifecycle.

+ Infrastructure project experience related to mechanical and HVAC systems.

+ Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, coordinating both in-office and remote activities.

Experience with HVAC design for complex healthcare environments, including patient care areas and specialized equipment spaces.

+ Familiarity with construction administration activities such as site visits, coordination with contractors, and field issue resolution.

Work Environment

The role operates within a hybrid work model built around a 36-hour base workweek. On Mondays and Wednesdays, you work 8 hours per day remotely, either from home or from project sites when needed. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you work 8 hours per day in the Jenkintown office, where the entire team is on-site for coordination, collaboration, and any required site visits.

Fridays consist of a 4-hour remote workday from home.
