Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room position at a small rural hospital requiring circulating experience across multiple specialties and on-call availability.

Details
  • Operating Room unit in a small rural, multi-disciplinary hospital setting
  • Average daily census of 10 patients across 4 operating rooms
  • OR circulator responsible for OR surgery, C-sections, PACU, and endoscopy coverage
  • Day shift schedule, 5x8 hours, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Call required 1 day per week and every 4th to 5th weekend
  • On-call staff must arrive within 30 minutes of call out
  • Float to other departments when census is low
  • Not a designated trauma facility, though occasional trauma cases may present through the ER
  • Uses Epic EMR
Requirements
  • Active RN license (Compact or LA) required in hand at time of submission
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience required
  • Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Previous travel RN experience required
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Experience with gynecologic, general, pediatric general, orthopedic, endoscopic, vascular, urologic, ENT, bariatric, thoracic, and oral surgical procedures
  • Proficiency in blood/blood product administration, cardiac monitoring, conscious sedation monitoring, infection control, laser and radiation safety, specimen handling, peripheral IV starts, universal protocol, bladder catheterization, and wound management
  • Knowledge of emergency management protocols including code response, fire safety, latex allergy, and malignant hyperthermia
  • Experience with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Steris equipment
  • Current driver's license required for consideration
  • Up-to-date NURSYS report required (within 4 weeks of submission)
Additional Information
  • Serve as OR circulator supporting surgical, C-section, PACU, and endoscopy procedures
  • First week on the unit includes 2 days of buddy call for orientation
  • Orientation held 5 days a week
  • Candidates must reside more than 65 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
  • Two Manager/Supervisor references (Charge RNs not accepted) required to obtain clearance to start, though not required at submission
  • All RTO must be documented on the candidate profile and discussed during the interview
  • Former permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must have a 1-year separation from the health system before returning as a travel contractor
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • May be assigned to an Emergency Team during declared emergency events, requiring the traveler to remain onsite until relieved
