Media Specialist. Job Goal:
To assist teachers and students in the effective use of the Media Center as a learning resource.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in ordering supplies and processing student ’s, passwords, notices of missing, damaged, or overdue library books, media and materials to provide and maintain access to library resources and secure reimbursement for losses.
  • Assist teachers, students, and administrators in identifying resource materials for classroom and class assignments.
  • Duplicate and work with media and instructional materials (as allowed by copyright) to maintain a proper inventory for internal distribution.
  • Assist with Book Fairs, Author Visits and other related media events.
  • Assist in evaluating books, media and/or periodicals for retention within the collection, including repairing damaged items, under the direction of the Media Specialist.
  • Maintain materials inventory and equipment to provide an up-to-date reference and ensure availability when required.
  • Monitor parent volunteers, student volunteers, student activities and technology use to maintain a safe environment and support learning.
  • Operate media equipment and computer management systems to provide library media services to students and staff.
  • Participate in workshops, in‑service training, meetings, etc. to gather information needed to perform functions.
  • Perform circulation activities, such as item check‑in and check‑out, overdue lists, etc., to control the use, location, and availability of items in the collection.
  • Prepare manual and electronic documents and reports, including collection statistics, scheduling reports, work orders, fines, costs, etc., to provide documentation and information to others.
  • Process library books, periodicals, software and related media materials, including logging into master files, barcoding, shelving, and producing required reports.
  • Assist the media specialist in managing wireless devices at the site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Contract Length and Salary

Contract:

One hundred seventy‑five (175) contract days. Salary commensurate with experience on the negotiated agreement of the Support Employees of Edmond (SEE).

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Principal in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies, state law, and the negotiated agreement with the Support Employees of Edmond (SEE).

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Qualification Requirements

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

None required.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to plan budgets and use required mathematical skills; maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects.

Reasoning Skills

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret extensive technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and handle abstract and concrete variables.

Ability to use computer and related programs; apply current research and theory; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community; organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings; communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing; perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, and depth perception.
