While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and, where necessary, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds from a standing, kneeling or crawling position. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Job goal:
To assist the teacher in the development and teaching of each student in the classroom.
- Assist teacher or step into her role if necessary.
- Reinforce all academic areas.
- Reinforce discipline procedures.
- Reinforce any behavior modification program.
- Teach groups or individuals.
- Grade papers; keep attendance; record grades.
- Assist in lesson plans, developing classroom materials and related projects.
- Maintain student and classroom files.
- Accompany students to elective or special classes when necessary.
- Assist on field trips.
- All activities related to classroom assistance.
- Assist in supervision of lunch and recess time.
- Assist and supervise children during rehearsals and performances of music programs, etc.
- Assist students using the restroom, change diapers, clean‑up after student accidents.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education:
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED). - Certificates, licenses, registrations:
None required. - Language skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public. - Mathematical skills:
Ability to plan budgets and use the required mathematical skills; maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under supervision. - Reasoning skills:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form; handle several abstract and concrete variables. - Other skills and abilities:
Use computers and related technology; apply knowledge of current research and theory; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community; organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings; communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form; perform duties with awareness of district and Board of Education policies.
