Position Summary

The Maintenance Support Technician is an entry level to developing role within the Maintenance Department at the Ice Cream Plant. This position supports Maintenance Technicians by assisting with routine maintenance, preventive maintenance (PM) tasks, equipment inspections, and basic repairs to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

The Maintenance Support Technician works under close supervision and receives on-the-job training while gaining hands‑on experience in industrial maintenance within a food manufacturing environment.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Performance Responsibilities Safety & Compliance
  • Comply with all OSHA, plant safety, food safety, and GMP requirements
  • Properly use required PPE at all times
  • Participate in safety training, maintenance training, and continuous improvement activities
Maintenance Support & Assistance
  • Assist Maintenance Technicians with routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs of production and facility equipment
  • Support scheduled preventive maintenance activities by following established PM procedures and checklists
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks such as lubrication, belt changes, part replacements, cleaning, and adjustments under supervision
  • Assist with equipment changeovers, start ups, and shutdowns as directed
Troubleshooting & Repairs (Entry Level)
  • Report equipment abnormalities, malfunctions, or safety concerns to Maintenance Technicians or Supervisors
  • Assist in troubleshooting basic mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic issues as skill level allows
  • Help prepare tools, parts, and materials needed for maintenance tasks
Documentation & Housekeeping
  • Complete assigned work orders and PM documentation accurately and on time
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance shops, work areas, and equipment
  • Follow all lockout/tagout (LOTO), food safety, and sanitation procedures
Other Duties
  • Work in confined spaces and elevated areas when properly trained
  • Perform other maintenance related duties as assigned to support plant operations
Training & Development
  • On‑the‑job training provided by experienced Maintenance Technicians and Supervisors – progressive skill development with opportunity to advance into a Maintenance Technician role based on performance, skill acquisition, and business needs
Position Specifications / Qualifications Education
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work‑related experience.
  • Technical coursework or enrollment in an industrial maintenance, mechanical, or electrical program preferred
Experience
  • Previous manufacturing, mechanical, construction, farm, or maintenance experience preferred but not required
  • Entry‑level candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in industrial maintenance
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Willingness to learn mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and safety awareness
  • Ability to work a rotating 12‑hour shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
  • Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to regularly perform heavy physical work outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous conditions.
