Public Works Department – Seasonal PW Technician
Pay Rate: $16.50
Status: Two Weeks
General Statement of DutiesThe City of Jerome is a dynamic organization that positively affects our citizens every day. This position performs a variety of semi‑skilled tasks related to the everyday operations and some emergency operations within the Public Works Department.
Supervision ReceivedWorks under the immediate supervision of a Technician II, Lead Operator or Operations Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist with street sanding, pothole patching, street painting, backfill street cuts, street crack filling, stop sign replacement, sign installation and repair.
- Perform a variety of manual tasks such as shoveling dirt, gravel, and other materials, cleaning up work sites, repairing drain pipes, etc.
- May be asked to operate light equipment.
- Perform equipment preparation and minor preventive maintenance on vehicles, trucks and related light equipment; monitor oil, grease, and fuel levels to ensure proper lubrication on a daily basis.
- May assist in water and irrigation main installation and repairs.
- Attend department meetings and communicate regularly with Supervisors and co‑workers.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
- Provide timely, respectful and thorough customer service.
- Communicate daily with cross‑functional teams regarding issues, events, and updates.
- Maintain a proper professional image and generate a positive public image.
- Be expected to be a leader within the organization as well as in the community.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Working knowledge of a variety of semi‑skilled maintenance and manual tasks.
- Some knowledge of equipment parts and preventive maintenance.
- Knowledge of job safety and safety precautions related to public works operations.
- Working knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
- Ability to perform manual tasks for sustained periods of time.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public and Supervisors.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.
Education and Experience
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; bending or squatting may be required.
- The employee will be expected to work from an elevated position, including climbing and working from ladders.
- The employee will be expected to work in confined spaces and must be able to wear appropriate equipment including belts and harnesses; sufficient physical and mental ability to withstand a confined environment is required.
- Vision requirements may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have adequate dexterity to manipulate, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms; standing, walking, talking, hearing, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required.
- Work will be performed in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
