The Assistant Controller will support the CFO in overseeing daily accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance activities for a fast-paced manufacturing and distribution organization. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records, managing inventory accounting processes, and ensuring the integrity of cost and operational data. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise combined with hands‑on experience in inventory management, cost accounting, and manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee general ledger activities including journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis.
- Lead and support inventory accounting processes, including valuation, reserves, cycle counts, physical inventories, and reconciliation of inventory subledgers to the general ledger.
- Partner with operations and supply chain teams to ensure accurate costing of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Monitor standard costing, variance analysis (labor, material, overhead), and inventory adjustments.
- Assist with development and maintenance of internal controls related to inventory, purchasing, and manufacturing operations.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting initiatives.
- Coordinate external audits and assist with preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Evaluate and improve accounting processes, including ERP workflows and automation opportunities.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in manufacturing and/or distribution environments.
- Strong inventory accounting and cost accounting experience required.
- Hands‑on experience with inventory controls, physical counts, and valuation methodologies.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally with operations, supply chain, and senior management.
