Job Description & How to Apply Below

PULLMAN, a Structural Group Company, integrates technology-driven, engineered solutions into its industry-leading contracting services. PULLMAN's capabilities include specialty design-build services for new and existing structures, as well as a wide range of specialty repair and maintenance services. With offices located throughout Canada and the United States, and as a signatory to local, national, and international labor union agreements, PULLMAN has the track record and the experience to meet our customers' specialty contracting needs.

We are currently recruiting for a Construction Estimator to be based in our New Jersey office located in Union, NJ. As an Estimator for PULLMAN, you will be responsible for estimating complex self-performed construction projects that make our nation's structures stronger and last longer. Projects typically consist of concrete repair, facade repairs, masonry restoration, waterproofing, structural strengthening, and related work.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing estimates by analyzing drawings, dissecting details, performing quantity take‑offs, identifying scope/specification gaps, developing RFIs, leveraging potential solutions, sourcing material price lists, determining labor productions and costs, identifying subcontractor scope and sourcing external pricing, and consolidating this information as it pertains to the project specific requirements.
  • Defining and quantifying scope of work and preparing comprehensive conceptual, budgetary, and construction cost estimates for projects.
  • Reviewing and researching historical data and compiling summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
  • Maintaining involvement in uncovering sales opportunities with prospective and existing customers.
  • Understanding and filling out complex bid form and qualification packages with focus on grammar, spelling, formatting, and detail specificity.
  • Having a general understanding of project management and how the estimates drive that process from a constructability and production perspective. Estimates for labor are production driven.
  • Attending and leading descope meetings with building owners and clients; being able to explain the project, estimate, and means/methods.
  • Assisting lower level estimators on understanding details, drawings, scopes, requirements, and the overall estimating and proposal process.
  • Determining project specific access requirements, developing drop plans and logistical plans.
Qualifications
  • Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Management may be given preference.
  • 5–8 years of construction estimating experience, ideally in an industry involving concrete repair projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team to estimate projects of moderate complexity up to $10 million.
  • Prior experience estimating up to 5 projects directly and supporting up to 5 estimates indirectly as a mentor.
  • Ability to evaluate, quantify, and capture specification requirements within the estimate.
  • Prior experience with terms & conditions in construction contracts.
  • A strong understanding of the greater New York City construction market (DOB regulations), including current market prices and clients (engineers, architects, property managers, owners). Familiarity with New York State and New Jersey markets is also preferred.
  • Previous experience maintaining client relationships while conducting light business development.
  • Demonstrated construction math and computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, OST, and Bluebeam. Must also be able to read blueprints.
  • Ability to travel 10–20 %.
  • Experience attending walkthroughs, identifying priority information, access, protections, risks, and opportunities, and asking challenging questions.
  • Understanding of labor types (union, PLA, prevailing wage), tax requirements (capital improvements, tax‑exempt, standard), insurance (OCIP, CCIP, standard), mark‑up vs margin, bonds (P&P and bid bond), and workforce diversity participation.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with subcontractors and vendors.

Our ideal Estimating candidate is an innovative but decisive individual who can work effectively in a highly collaborative, team‑based environment; brings strong solution‑focused, creative thinking to every project challenge; sets goals and expectations and holds others accountable; encourages and mentors others; is approachable, empathetic, and outgoing; quickly gains trust and respect; and establishes and maintains relationships.

$0.00 – $0.00

PULLMAN is proud of a company culture that promotes 24/7 safety and quality. We offer competitive compensation and benefits including medical and dental insurance, 401(k), paid holidays & vacation, tuition reimbursement, career development and growth opportunities, and a caring work environment.
