Construction Administrator

The Axel Group is seeking a Construction Administrator to join our client’s team in Somerset County, New Jersey. Our client is an established, award-winning architecture and design firm serving the Mid-Atlantic region. With decades of experience, the firm provides architecture, planning, and interior design services across a diverse portfolio of public and private-sector projects, including education, civic, commercial, housing, justice, and community-focused facilities.

Known for its collaborative culture, technical expertise, and commitment to high-quality design, the firm has built a strong reputation for delivering successful projects while maintaining strong relationships with clients and consultants.

The Construction Administrator will oversee construction-phase activities and serve as a key liaison between the design team, clients, contractors, and consultants. This individual will lead site visits and construction meetings, manage project documentation and contract administration, and provide practical solutions to field conditions and construction challenges. The ideal candidate will bring strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, along with a solid understanding of AIA agreements and construction-phase processes.

While the Construction Administrator will “report” to the office as needed, this individual must be comfortable traveling to job sites spanning Central NJ, Northern NJ, and areas of Northampton County, PA.

• Provide construction administration services to support quality control and respond effectively to client and project team needs.
• Participate in client and project team meetings, serving as a liaison between the design team, owners, contractors, consultants, vendors, and municipal officials.
• Manage construction-phase documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and updates to construction documents as required.
• Lead on-site meetings with contractors, subcontractors, and project team members to address field conditions, communicate design intent, and support coordinated progress.
• Apply professional judgment and technical expertise to analyze field conditions and develop clear, practical solutions to construction challenges of varying complexity.
• Conduct and document regular site visits to monitor construction progress and conformance with the contract documents.
• Demonstrate strong organizational, time-management, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities during the construction phase.
• Maintain a thorough working knowledge of Architect–Owner and Owner–Contractor AIA agreements and their application during construction.

Requirements:

• BA/BS in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering field, preferred but not required
• 5+ years of experience overseeing design and construction initiatives
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit, preferred
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel to project sites
