Jersey City Connects curates in-person experiences designed to help people connect, from hikes and trivia nights to hands-on creative workshops.
We’re looking for a passionate Teaching Artist to lead one art workshop per month for our community.
Workshops will range from beginner-friendly introductions to more intermediate sessions. Workshops may include watercolor, oil pastels, charcoal drawing, or other mixed media, but you do not need to specialize in all mediums. If you’re skilled in one (for example, oil pastels or charcoal), we’d love to build workshops around your strengths.
This role is perfect for an artist who loves guiding others, building confidence in beginners, and creating a warm, welcoming creative space.
What You'll Do
- Lead one 2–3 hour art workshop per month
- Design and guide beginner-friendly and occasional intermediate-level sessions
- Introduce techniques clearly and accessibly
- Arrive early to help set up and stay briefly after to wrap up
Who You Are
- A practicing artist with strong skills in at least one medium (watercolor, oil pastels, charcoal, drawing, or similar)
- Comfortable teaching adults (experience with beginners strongly preferred)
- Able to break down techniques in a simple, encouraging way
- Confident leading groups of 25 people
- Warm, reliable, and community-oriented
- Excited about helping people connect through creativity
