Position: CHESS INSTRUCTOR

The Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) at Hudson County Community College provides a variety of non-credit educational opportunities, including classes, courses, seminars, and training sessions. CEWD supports career advancement, professional skill development, and personal growth for individuals from all walks of life. The division is committed to helping individuals upgrade their credentials, develop their business ventures, and explore their passions in an enriching environment.

Role Description

This is a part-time, on-site role for a Summer Camp Chess Instructor based in our HCCC, Jersey City campus. The Chess Instructor will be responsible for designing, planning, and conducting engaging chess lessons for our summer camp students of varying skill levels. Responsibilities include teaching chess strategies and techniques, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and encouraging a deeper appreciation for the game of chess.

The instructor will facilitate a supportive and dynamic learning environment and align teaching methods with the educational goals of Continuing Education.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Chess, including strong knowledge of strategies, moves, and rules.
  • Experience in Teaching, Tutoring, or Training in an educational or instructional setting.

Adaptability to work with young students of ages 9 through 16 and of different skill levels in a classroom setting.

  • Strong understanding of Mathematics and its application in logical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively engage and motivate young students.
  • Previous experience in teaching or coaching chess is preferred.
