Position OverviewMCG is seeking an experienced and collaborative Special Education and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Consultant to partner with school districts in strengthening systems, improving instructional practices, and achieving better outcomes for students.
The consultant will provide professional learning, coaching, technical assistance, program evaluation, and implementation support related to special education and MTSS. The ideal candidate combines deep subject‑matter expertise with practical district or school leadership experience and can translate research, regulations, and best practices into sustainable systems that work in real educational settings.
This consulting position includes both virtual and onsite work with school districts.
Candidates must be willing and available to provide onsite services in districts throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with possible travel to other states upon request.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of special education programs, procedures, services, and student records.
- Review IEPs for quality, compliance, alignment, and educational benefit.
- Support districts in strengthening referral, evaluation, eligibility, IEP development, progress monitoring, annual review, and reevaluation practices.
- Evaluate the alignment among present levels of academic achievement and functional performance, student needs, measurable annual goals, services, accommodations, and progress‑monitoring practices.
- Provide guidance related to IDEA, Section 504, applicable state regulations, procedural safeguards, and district responsibilities.
- Support districts in examining identification practices, placement patterns, disproportionality, least restrictive environment, out‑of‑district placements, and inclusive programming.
- Assist with improving special education procedures, guidance documents, forms, tools, and internal accountability systems.
- Deliver professional learning and coaching for administrators, child study teams, special education teachers, related‑service providers, general education teachers, and paraprofessionals.
