Young Management & Consulting is looking a the Fire Protection Engineer that will be responsible for the technical review of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection design documents associated with tenant alteration applications (TAA) and design audit projects across owner- and operator-managed facilities. This role ensures that all submitted designs comply with applicable construction codes, adopted fire and life safety standards, and established technical requirements.

The successful candidate will act as a key technical liaison between tenants, facility stakeholders, and internal review teams, supporting efficient project processing, coordinated reviews, and timely resolution of design and code compliance issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection design documents submitted as part of Tenant Alteration Applications (TAA) and design audit projects.
  • Analyze and evaluate construction drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, and technical studies for compliance with applicable building, fire, and life safety codes and standards.
  • Identify design deficiencies, code compliance issues, and coordination conflicts, and prepare clear, concise, and actionable review comments.
  • Coordinate and consolidate review input from multiple technical disciplines to ensure consistency and alignment across comments.
  • Prepare formal memoranda and correspondence transmitting consolidated review comments to internal line departments and external stakeholders.
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings with tenant design consultants, including Architects and Engineers of Record, to discuss review comments, clarify requirements, and resolve technical issues.
  • Communicate and coordinate with facilities teams, tenants, and internal application reviewers to support smooth workflow and timely processing of TAA and design audit projects.
  • Support the assignment and tracking of multidisciplinary code reviews to ensure timely completion and adherence to review schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation within internal systems and platforms, including SharePoint, Trimble, and other project management or document control tools.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in mechanical, plumbing, and/or fire protection system design and code compliance for building projects.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines related to building design and construction, including transportation and complex facility environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable building codes, fire codes, life safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical requirements and review comments.
  • Proven ability to act as an effective liaison between tenants, facilities teams, and internal reviewers to ensure coordinated and efficient project delivery.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability and willingness to learn and use internal and external platforms such as SharePoint, Trimble, and related systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of New York and/or New Jersey is required.
Preferred Attributes
  • Experience reviewing tenant improvement or alteration projects in large, complex facilities.
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary design coordination and formal design audit or authority review processes.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent reviews while meeting established deadlines.
