Investment Analyst Overview

Investment Analyst is a junior level position within the Investment Office reporting to the Chief Investment Officer. An Investment Analyst serves as a generalist member of the team who will support the CIO and senior investment professionals. An Investment Analyst is integral to the management of System assets and to fulfilling the Office's overall responsibilities. An Investment Analyst must be a passionate investor, strong team player, and a self‑starter.

He or she must demonstrate an interest in the non‑profit sector and an innate sense of responsibility when representing RWJBarnabas Health. An Investment Analyst supports the CIO and senior investment professionals in developing and implementing investment strategy and risk management frameworks across asset classes. The Investment Analyst is responsible for analytics and documentation related to the selection, monitoring, and oversight of the System's external investment managers.

Specific

Job Functions
  • Support the CIO and senior investment professionals in devising and implementing investment strategy and asset class structure across the portfolio
  • Serve as subject matter expert and primary point of contact for the Investment Office's portfolio management system
  • Responsibilities include managing data and developing reports and analytics for investment and portfolio monitoring to support decision making of the CIO and senior investment professionals
  • Assist in investment manager sourcing and due diligence across public and private markets
  • Develop and maintain strong asset class universe knowledge
  • Keep CIO and senior investment professionals apprised of asset class and manager developments
  • Maintain strong understanding of portfolio exposures and communicate them to Investment team
  • Help with creating manager and portfolio research to present to the Investment Committee as directed by the CIO
  • Conduct ad‑hoc studies and special projects such as research papers on various asset classes, investment strategies, and macro themes as requested by the CIO and senior investment professionals
  • Maintain an attitude that is positive, proactive, hardworking, enthusiastic, and accountable
Requirements
  • Two to four years of relevant experience in an investing, strategy, consulting, banking, or capital markets environment
  • Familiarity with endowment‑style investing and interest in long‑term career in an asset allocator role
  • Superior problem solving and analytic skills; advanced proficiency in Excel, familiarity with statistical analyses, and comfort using data providers such as Bloomberg
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility to work both autonomously and collaboratively, and the ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines in a dynamic and demanding setting
  • Proactive with analyses, researching topics that may be useful to the broader portfolio
  • The Investment Analyst will communicate thoughts and ideas to the Investment Office team
  • Interpersonal skills to establish reliability and integrity with Investment Office colleagues, external investment managers, and the Health System's constituents, as well as the ability to create a network of peers
  • Live within commuting distance from Jersey City, NJ (ie New York City, Northern NJ) or be willing to relocate
