The VP, Investments Accounting Policy role is a forward‑thinking subject matter expert who actively leverages emerging technologies and technical accounting research for the organization’s complex investment portfolio.
Responsibilities- Lead technical research on U.S. GAAP and U.S. Statutory accounting for complex investment assets and structures.
- Consolidation assessment of variable interest entity and voting interest models.
- Accounting for strategic new investment vehicles, including equity method, Fair Value Option (FVO), and underlying assets under fixed‑maturity, equity‑interest, or loan models.
- Finance, derivatives, insurance‑related instruments, embedded derivatives, hedge accounting, securities lending, and other unique transactions.
- Collaborate across functions to ensure investment portfolio accounting policies align with U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory, Bermuda frameworks, and capital requirements.
- Serve as technical specialist for ASC 810, ASC 815, ASC 323, and ASC 860.
- Act as main point of contact for the investment office on complex transactions, defining accounting requirements and coordinating with financial reporting.
- Integrate AI‑powered tools into research and execution workflows.
- Provide technical accounting guidance to the investment accounting team.
- Research, assess, and document accounting implications for significant or unusual transactions.
- Monitor standards developments from FASB, SEC, and NAIC impacting company policies.
- Contribute to financial process documentation and internal controls focusing on technical accounting.
- Offer real‑time advice on GAAP and statutory implications for new transactions.
- Provide training and coaching to staff as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree and internationally recognized accounting designation (CPA or CA).
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a relevant investment background; public accounting and insurance sector exposure preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in accounting for complex investment structures, particularly variable interest and voting interest consolidation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work at a fast pace and handle shifting priorities.
- Detail oriented with excellent technical memorandum writing ability.
- Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Stays current on U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory guidance and SEC regulations.
- Supports core values by communicating and teaming effectively across cultures and organizational levels.
Base Salary Range: $212,000—$232,000 USD, commensurate with experience. Eligible for an annual bonus and a generous benefits package.
