The Role
Lord Abbett is seeking an experienced Municipal Bond Research Analyst to join our Tax-Free Fixed Income investment team. This role is designed for an experienced municipal credit professional with a focus in revenue-backed municipal securities, potentially including sectors such as transportation, utilities, pre-paid gas, industrial revenue and other revenue issuers.
As a Municipal Bond Research Analyst, you will serve as a primary driver of fundamental credit insights. You will take ownership of a coverage universe, produce credit opinions, and help shape portfolio positioning through rigorous analysis and timely communication.
Ideal candidates will have 5-15 years of experience analyzing municipal credits on the buy side, at a rating agency, or in a comparable role.
We’ll trust you to:- Lead fundamental credit research for a dedicated municipal revenue-bond coverage universe, maintaining forward-looking views, rating assumptions, and issuer-specific risk assessments.
- Monitor credit, operating, and capital trends across key municipal sectors; synthesize financial, legal, economic, demographic, and ESG-related inputs into actionable conclusions.
- Build and maintain robust financial models
, scenario analyses, and sector frameworks to evaluate issuer performance and credit trajectories. - Produce clear, insightful written research
, investment recommendations, and presentations for use in internal discussions and meetings. - Engage directly with issuers, underwriters, municipal advisors, and other market participants to deepen understanding and inform analysis.
- Collaborate across the broader Fixed Income platform to share insights, ensure consistency of credit philosophy, and support multi-sector strategies.
- Leverage advanced quantitative tools, AI-enabled analytics, and firmwide data resources to enhance research depth and efficiency.
- 5-15 years of experience researching municipal bonds—ideally at a buy-side asset manager

, or similar platform. - Demonstrated expertise in revenue-backed municipal sectors and familiarity with legal security structures, covenants, flow-of-funds, and issuer financials.
- Strong financial modeling, analytical, and valuation skills; proficiency with Excel and/or analytical programming tools a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication
, including the ability to articulate concise, high-conviction credit opinions under time pressure. - Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree, CFA, or CFA candidacy preferred.
