Job Overview

Assists the Director of Patient Care and the staff nurses by performing specific clerical functions for assigned areas.

Qualifications
  • High School graduate
  • Successful completion of all orientation programs
Preferred
  • Clerical experience, including typing and filing
Scheduling Requirements
  • Shift: 7:00 am‑3:00 pm
  • Monday‑Friday including every other weekend/holiday
  • Part‑time – Day
Essential Functions
  • Answer telephones properly and relay information to the appropriate person
  • Assemble and disassemble designated charts appropriately
  • Assist nurses by picking up and delivering blood, blood derivatives, specimens, medications and charts as required
  • Assist as directed with PI activities such as data collections
  • Ensure a safe environment in aspects of care, equipment and treatment
  • Identify and report potential and actual patient safety issues
  • Keep medical record complete and in order
  • Maintain communication with the Bed Controller and cooperate with room assignments
  • Notify appropriate departments of patient expirations and attach death certificate to medical record for attending MD signatures
  • Notify nurse upon arrival of an admission – direct admission – ensures all parts of patient records are properly identified by use of patient identification lab
  • Participate in unit-based patient satisfaction
  • Hourly rounding in inpatient rooms, assist patients as needed (water, get assistance)
  • Greeting patients and family on admissions
  • Answer call bells as needed
  • Assist in discharge process
  • Perform environmental rounds on a daily basis, including patient and non‑patient areas
  • Perform required clerical work relating to the admissions, transfer and discharge of a patient
  • Secure needed unit services as directed by Director of Patient Care and/or Assistant Director of Patient Care (e.g., maintenance, housekeeping, security)
