Data Engineer, Database Administrator
Description
Hybrid Every other week onsite in either Westlake, TX or Jersey City, NJ
We are seeking a services focused engineer with a strong understanding of the financial domain, as well as PL‑SQL, and rigorous data handling to support finance functions. This engagement involves processing large, business‑critical datasets with strong emphasis on accuracy, performance, and secure operations within an Agile team who all communicate and collaborate frequently. This is not a "heads down" engineering role, applicants must be ready to tell stories with their data, and work well with all parts of the team, both engineers, DBAs, as well as business leaders
Due to client requirements, applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis. For our w2 consultants, we offer a great benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, 401k with company matching, and life insurance.
Rate: $53.00 to $58.00/hr. w2
Responsibilities- Develop, optimize, and maintain Oracle SQL and PL/SQL code including packages, procedures, functions, triggers, and views in a mission critical environment including high stake projects (10+ TB systems)
- Perform aggressive performance tuning for queries and stored procedures to support large, sensitive dataset son existing and new code — analyzing execution plans, optimizing queries, indexing strategies, and reducing resource consumption on very large datasets
- Build and enhance robust data ingestion pipelines using SQL
* Loader for bulk loading from diverse sources - Develop and maintain Unix shell scripts for automation, scheduling, monitoring, and orchestration of database jobs and ETL processes
- Handle complex data integration challenges where data flows bidirectionally between internal systems, external feeds, and the Oracle database
- Ensure high availability, data consistency, and recoverability in environments where downtime or data loss is unacceptable
- Collaborate with architects, DBAs, and stakeholders to evolve the database layer supporting enterprise‑scale operations
- Occasionally create or enhance reporting solutions using Oracle‑compatible tools
- 8+ years of hands‑on Oracle SQL and PL/SQL development with large, sensitive datasets and low tolerance for error in a hands‑on, production‑level experience as an Oracle Database Developer/Consultant
- Deep, expert‑level proficiency in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL development (packages, bulk processing, collections, advanced error handling, dynamic SQL, etc.)
- Proven track record of performance tuning large‑scale Oracle databases and queries — must be able to diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks quickly on multi‑terabyte datasets
- Strong experience with Unix/Linux shell scripting for database automation and operational tasks
- Solid hands‑on experience with SQL
* Loader for efficient bulk data loading in ETL workflows - Familiarity with common reporting tools that integrate with Oracle (e.g., Oracle Reports, BI Publisher, or similar)
- Demonstrated history working with large volumes of sensitive/critical data where accuracy and reliability are non‑negotiable
- Experience with Python for scripting, automation, data manipulation, or extending Oracle workflows
- Exposure to AWS services (e.g., RDS for Oracle, S3 integration, Glue, Lambda, or cloud migration patterns)
- Background in data analytics — working with large datasets, aggregation patterns, partitioning, materialized views, or analytical functions
- Familiarity with advanced Oracle features for big data (partitioning, compression, parallel query, Exadata optimizations, etc.)
You deliver bullet‑proof PL/SQL code that runs efficiently at scale, automate critical processes reliably via shell scripts, load terabytes without drama using SQL
* Loader, and proactively tune systems before performance becomes an issue. When something goes wrong (because at 10 TB+ scale, entropy happens), you’re the calm expert who finds and fixes root causes fast.
- If you live for optimizing complex Oracle environments, have scars from real production incidents at enterprise scale, and want to work where your code truly matters — we want to talk.
Bachelors (either in Computer Science / STEM / related Science) will be strongly preferred
