DBDatabase Administrator II

Responsibilities

• Database Installation and Configuration: DB2 Application DBAs work with application, systems programmers, storage and security teams to design, implement and maintain database objects in DB2 z/OS for application development, testing and production.
• Database Design and Modeling: DB2 DBAs work closely with application developers and system analysts to design and implement database structures that meet the organization’s requirements, ensuring data integrity and performance.
• Performance Monitoring and Tuning: DB2 DBAs monitor database performance continuously, analyze metrics, identify bottlenecks and work with development teams to rewrite or optimize SQL, adjust buffer pool settings, and implement partitioning where appropriate.
• Security and Access Control: DB2 DBAs enforce database security by implementing access controls, user privileges, role-based permissions, data masking, encryption, and authentication mechanisms to protect sensitive data.
• Backup, Recovery and Restores: DB2 DBAs develop and implement backup and recovery strategies, schedule regular backups, perform recoveries during failures, test procedures, and conduct system database restores using both test and production backups.
• Database Maintenance and Upgrades: DB2 DBAs perform routine maintenance tasks such as reorganization, statistics collection, and index maintenance, and support systems programmers in planning and executing database upgrades and patches with minimal downtime.
• IBM Utilities & IBM DB2 Tools: DB2 DBAs use DB2 utilities, IBM DB2 Tools, and monitoring tools to provide day‑to‑day development, testing, and production support, ensuring efficient database operation and fine‑tuning SQL statements.
• Troubleshooting, Performance Monitoring and Problem Resolution: DB2 DBAs investigate and resolve issues related to databases, utilities, and tools, utilizing diagnostic logs and utilities to identify root causes and implement appropriate fixes.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5‑10 years of hands‑on experience in DB2 z/OS database administration.
• Knowledge and hands‑on experience with DB2 utilities, IBM DB2 Tools, MVS, and JCL.
• Detailed experience validating design, implementing DB2 objects, and tuning complex SQL.
• Strong technical aptitude with ability to solve problems and perform backup, recovery, reorg, runstats, unloads, and loads while improving company standards.
• Proficiency in implementing and managing high‑availability and disaster‑recovery solutions.
• Knowledge of database security best practices, including encryption and auditing.
• Team player working closely with DBA’s and other groups, such as development teams, DB2 systems, MVS systems, storage, security, and the data center.
• Willingness and ability to provide 24×7 support as needed.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Project management skills and ability to lead and mentor a team.
• DB2 certifications are a plus.
• Knowledge and hands‑on experience with IBM Data Studio is a plus.
• Knowledge and experience with COBOL, REXX, Java, SAS, CICS, USS, Web Sphere are a plus.
• Knowledge and hands‑on experience with IBM Q Replication is a plus.
• Financial industry experience is also a plus.

$120K to $140K

Compensation includes base salary, discretionary bonuses, and profit‑sharing. The base salary range may vary by location and candidate experience.
