EssentialJob Summary
The Senior Maintenance Manager is a senior field‑execution leader responsible for overseeing multiple fleet maintenance locations within an assigned area. This role serves as the primary execution arm of the company’s Fleet Maintenance Department, ensuring that enterprise maintenance standards, KPIs, and financial controls are consistently deployed and sustained at the shop level. This position does not set enterprise maintenance strategy but is fully accountable for executing it—driving consistency, developing maintenance leaders, stabilizing underperforming locations, and ensuring fleet availability, safety compliance, and cost discipline across a complex, high‑utilization refuse and heavy‑duty fleet.
EssentialJob Functions
- Multi‑Site Fleet Leadership
- Provide direct oversight and leadership to Maintenance Managers and Supervisors across multiple locations
- Ensure consistent execution of IWS maintenance standards, policies, and procedures
- Serve as the escalation point for complex operational, technical, and personnel issues
- Coach, mentor, and develop maintenance leadership talent to support succession planning
- Maintenance Execution & Reliability
- Ensure disciplined execution of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs
- Drive high asset availability and uptime across refuse trucks, tractors, trailers, roll‑off, and support equipment
- Lead structured root cause analysis (RCA) for repeat failures, downtime assets, and cost outliers
- Enforce standardized repair practices, PM intervals, and inspection protocols
- KPI Ownership & Performance Management
- Own area‑level maintenance KPIs, including but not limited to:
- PM Efficiency, Labor Efficiency, Fleet Availability & Downtime, R&M Spend vs Budget, Backlog Aging & Work Order Management, DVIR Closure & Regulatory Compliance
- Conduct weekly and monthly performance reviews with Maintenance Managers
- Develop and execute corrective action plans for underperforming locations
- Ensure readiness and accuracy for Monthly Operating Reviews (MORs) and executive reporting
- Own area‑level maintenance KPIs, including but not limited to:
- Financial Stewardship
- Manage and control area‑level maintenance spend within approved budgets
- Forecast labor, parts, and outside service costs with accuracy and discipline
- Identify cost‑reduction opportunities without compromising safety or reliability
- Partner with Directors on capital recommendations based on asset condition and performance data
- CMMS & Process Discipline
- Enforce strict CMMS compliance across all assigned locations
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of work order notes, labor hours, parts usage & equipment status
- Audit work order quality and backlog health regularly
- Drive standard workflows and data discipline to support enterprise analytics
- Safety & Compliance
- Champion a safety‑first culture across all maintenance locations
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental regulations, and company policies
- Lead safety audits, inspections, and corrective actions
- Ensure adherence to LOTO, HECP, hot‑work, and shop safety standards
- Maintain audit‑ready documentation and regulatory records
- Vendor & Contractor Oversight
- Oversee execution of vendor, contractor, and OEM relationships at the area level
- Ensure vendor performance aligns with cost, quality, and turnaround expectations
- Support contract compliance and service‑level adherence
- Partner with Procurement and Directors on supplier performance feedback
6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday alternating Saturday.
