Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities. Our fully‑accredited non‑profit private school combines traditional academics with therapeutic intervention and pre‑vocational skill development. Our Adult Services Program includes five licensed community residences/group homes and two adult learning centers. Matheny's Arts Access program empowers individuals with disabilities to create art without boundaries.

Matheny Medical and Educational Center has career opportunities available for Full Time and Per Diem Licensed Practical Nurses at our Special Hospital in Peapack, NJ. There are various shifts available. Qualified candidates who are hired for Full Time employment will receive a Signing Bonus of $3,000.00. ($750.00 payable after completion of six months of continuous employment and the remaining $750.00 after completion of twelve months of continuous employment).

• Demonstrates effective skills in the assessment and review of patients medical records.
• Follows each patients individualized plan of care, monitors outcomes to treatments, and communicates issues to the patients primary nurse.
• Demonstrates critical thinking skills to determine appropriate nursing interventions and/or the need for collaboration with the physician or other clinicians.
• Carries out all nursing/physician orders and documents nursing care and patient responses in accordance with hospital requirements.
• Demonstrates proficiency in medication administration and applies the Six Rights to safeguard against medication errors.
• Demonstrates proficiency in all fundamental nursing skills.
• Applies CDC Infection Control Guidelines for Standard Precautions and Transmission-Based Precautions and monitors infection control practices within the work environment.
• Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team by giving and receiving pertinent information to colleagues.
• Maintains on‑going and timely communication with families/guardians on all patient‑related issues.
• Advocates effectively and ensures patient information is properly communicated when patients transition among healthcare professionals, both internally with the MCMD and externally with outside providers.
• Demonstrates appropriate communication with patients taking into consideration their ages and functional levels.
• Communicates effectively and follows up with direct care providers regarding patient care needs.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse in a special hospital, performance of additional responsibilities not outlined in this job description may be required in an emergency situation. Additional assistance as a result of staff absences or shortages is also required, including additional weekend and/or holiday time.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D required.
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing program for Practical Nursing required.

• Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey required.
• Current CPR Certification required.
