Position Overview

The Payments Technology Lead is a critical leadership role accountable for the strategic management and delivery of complex, critical, and large‑scale professional disciplinary areas within our Wealth NAM Payments Technology team. This role leads and directs a highly skilled team of engineering professionals, requiring a comprehensive understanding of multiple interdependent areas within the technology landscape and their interaction to achieve ambitious functional objectives, specifically within the payments ecosystem.

The successful candidate will apply an in‑depth understanding of the business impact of technical contributions and possess strong commercial acumen, particularly concerning payments innovation and market trends.

The position holds ultimate accountability for the end results of their area, exercising control over resources, contributing to policy formulation, and leading strategic planning within the Wealth NAM Payments technology domain. Full management responsibility includes people leadership, budget oversight, and strategic planning, encompassing performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations, as well as budget approval.

• Demonstrate the ability to attract senior talent and multiple functions from inside and outside of the company, set high organizational performance standards, determine performance measures and goals, and establish a leadership bar.
• Recognize trends for larger‑scale development needs within and across teams and build plans to develop skills, sharing talent development best practices across the organization.
• Lead end‑to‑end development, implementation, and successful delivery of large‑scale, critical, and technically challenging software initiatives related to payments platforms, payment gateways, fraud detection systems, or core banking payment integrations.
• Think holistically in terms of scalable architecture and resilient systems for high‑volume, low‑latency payments systems; maintain detailed technical knowledge of the work performed by your teams and proactively drive improvements in consistency, integration, and interoperability between your software and related systems.
• Audit department goals to ensure alignment with broader organizational objectives and hold the department accountable for performance.
• Develop and communicate department vision that supports the broader organizational vision, ensuring team culture consistently demonstrates alignment with leadership principles.
• Influence your team’s technical and business strategy by identifying and solving ambiguous problems, addressing architecture deficiencies, and removing software bottlenecks.
• Communicate ideas effectively to achieve the right outcome for the team and customer, harmonize views, and lead the resolution of contentious issues.
• Lead design reviews for your team and participate in related design reviews of other team software.
• Provide insightful code reviews, take ownership of outcomes, and set a high example for development efficiency.
• Demonstrate technical influence over 3‑4 teams through collaborative software efforts or by increasing productivity and effectiveness with best practices (e.g., security, quality, operational excellence).
• Participate in the hiring process, mentor others, improving their skills and ability to deliver results.
• Assess risk in business decisions, safeguarding the firm’s reputation and assets by ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and ethical judgment.

• 10+ years of relevant experience in a product line management, e‑commerce, and/or strategic planning role.
• Experience developing and maintaining front‑end components using Angular and back‑end services with Java, ensuring seamless integration through well‑designed APIs.
• Architect and implement resilient and high‑performing microservices architectures, managing data persistence with MongoDB and integrating solutions into continuous deployment pipelines using CI/CD best practices.
