Senior Software Engineer – Kubernetes Platform Engineering, Service Mesh & Developer Platforms

Position Summary

The Senior Software Engineer – Kubernetes Platform Engineering, Service Mesh & Developer Platforms (Golang APIs) serves as a senior technical leader responsible for defining, designing, and delivering the next generation of cloud‑native platform capabilities across the bank's enterprise container ecosystem. The role provides technical leadership for platform APIs, Kubernetes automation, service mesh enablement, CI/CD modernization, and developer self‑service capabilities that support large‑scale application onboarding and lifecycle management.

• Ensure that the design and engineering approach for complex features are consistent with the larger portfolio solution.
• Conduct research, design prototyping and other exploration activities such as evaluating new toolsets and components for release management, CI/CD, features, etc.
• Help define the technology tool stack for the solution.
• Evaluate and adapt new testing tool/framework/practices for team(s).
• Kubernetes and Open Shift platform engineering Golang API and microservices development.
• Service Mesh (Consul, Istio, Linkerd) enablement and automation.
• CI/CD and Git Ops platforms (Tekton, ArgoCD).
• Platform onboarding and self‑service automation.
• Observability, reliability, and platform resiliency.
• Enterprise‑scale cloud‑native architecture and automation.
• Lead for one or more teams:
  Accountable for end-to-end delivery of complex features, including automation, at the program level.
• Work with stakeholders to establish high‑level solution needs and with architects for technical requirements.
• Lead the technical oversight for teams in solution development.

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, cloud‑native development, or distributed systems engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Golang (Go) with hands‑on experience building APIs, microservices, controllers, operators, and automation solutions.
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and/or Red Hat Open Shift (OCP) in enterprise production environments.
• Experience designing, deploying, and supporting cloud‑native applications and platform services.
• Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Tekton, Argo CD, Jenkins, Git Hub Actions, Git Lab CI/CD, or similar platforms.
• Experience implementing and supporting Git Ops‑based deployment models.
• Hands‑on experience with Service Mesh technologies such as Istio, Consul, Linkerd, or equivalent service networking solutions.
• Strong understanding of Microservices architecture, Distributed systems design, Container technologies (Docker/OCI), API‑first development principles, Cloud‑native application patterns.
• Experience integrating enterprise services including Identity & Access Management (IAM), Secrets Management (Vault or equivalent), Service Discovery, Security and Compliance controls, Platform onboarding workflows.
• Experience with monitoring, observability, and troubleshooting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, Open Telemetry, Elasticsearch/Splunk, Jaeger or distributed tracing platforms.
• Strong problem‑solving, debugging, performance tuning, and root‑cause analysis skills.
• Experience working collaboratively with Platform Engineering, SRE, Dev Ops, Infrastructure, Security, and Application Development teams.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical solutions.
• Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and ability to deliver solutions in large‑scale enterprise environments.

• Experience with Kubernetes platforms such as Open Shift, EKS, AKS, Rancher, GKE, or Tanzu.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, Helm).
• Experience developing Kubernetes operators, controllers, or platform APIs.
• Familiarity with enterprise networking and security concepts including Ingress/Egress, API Gateways, TLS/mTLS, Zero Trust architectures.
• Experience supporting hybrid cloud and multi‑cluster environments.
• Exposure to financial services or other highly regulated industries.
