Senior Backend Python Developer – Global Markets Surveillance

Position Overview We are seeking a Senior Backend Python Developer to support a high-profile Global Markets Supervisory and Surveillance program within a major financial institution. The team is working on a large-scale Operational Excellence (OpEx) initiative, which represents approximately one-third of the organization’s funding for the year.

The primary focus will be the retirement of an existing vendor surveillance platform and the migration/consolidation of its functionality into an enterprise supervisory platform. This is a critical, high-visibility initiative spanning multiple lines of business
, with significant backend development, frontend integration, alert generation, and business-user interaction.

The ideal candidate will have strong Python and REST API development experience
, with a predominantly backend background and experience working with both relational and object-oriented/object databases.

• Design, develop, and enhance backend applications and services using Python
  .
• Build and maintain REST APIs supporting global markets supervisory and surveillance capabilities.
• Contribute to the migration and consolidation of functionality from a legacy/vendor surveillance platform into a centralized supervisory platform.
• Develop functionality supporting alerts, surveillance workflows, monitoring, and supervisory processes
  .
• Work across multiple lines of business and collaborate closely with technology, product, compliance, risk, and business stakeholders.
• Support frontend teams by providing reliable backend services and APIs.
• Work with both relational and object-oriented/object databases
  .
• Participate in application enhancements, implementations, migrations, upgrades, and platform modernization initiatives.
• Investigate and resolve production issues and incoming support requests.
• Contribute to audit remediation and regulatory-related technology initiatives
  , including self-identified and audit-identified items.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Work in an Agile/enterprise development environment and communicate effectively with technical and business teams.

• REST APIs – Experience designing, developing, and integrating RESTful services.
• Backend Development – Strong backend engineering experience with exposure to:
• Relational databases
• Object-oriented/object databases
• API development and service-oriented architectures

• 10–15 years of professional software development experience
  .
• Strong experience taking ownership of backend development responsibilities and delivering enterprise-scale applications.
• Experience working on implementation, enhancement, migration, modernization, or upgrade projects.
• Experience with in the financial services or capital markets industry
  .
• Experience supporting Global Markets, Fixed Income, Risk, Pricing, Trading, or Surveillance applications.
• Understanding of financial-market workflows and business processes.
• Experience developing applications that generate, process, or manage business and regulatory alerts
  .
