Position: POLICE OFFICER II **REPOST** (STIU/ MDH POLICE)

Position Summary

The main purpose of this full‑time position is to serve as a Maryland Police Training Commission Certified Police Officer, capable of conducting complex criminal and general investigations in a fair and impartial manner while maintaining strict confidentiality. The officer will implement crime‑scene procedures, retain evidence, and complete comprehensive investigative reports. The officer will also conduct interviews, interrogations, and liaison with the Maryland State Police and other agencies regarding criminal investigations at MDH facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of Maryland criminal laws and MDH policies and procedures.
  • Enforce appropriate federal, state, and local laws in a fair and impartial manner.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license from their state of residency to operate state vehicles and provide medical and judicial transports for forensic patients.
  • Maintain investigative abilities and demonstrate good writing and oral communication skills.
  • Maintain Maryland Police and Corrections Commission certification and special police commission as required.
  • May be assigned to work different shifts and may be recalled on weekends, holidays, or off hours to meet investigative and operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Experience: Six months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer.

Note:

Military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher may be substituted for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Licenses, Registrations and Certifications
  • Possession of a Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.
  • Recertification of former Certified Police Officers within the past three years.
  • Possession or procurement of a special police commission if required.
Special Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Satisfactory background investigation, including criminal history check.
  • Oral interview and physical examination.
  • Valid driver’s license in Maryland.
  • Availability for call‑in and on‑call duties.
  • Potential requirement to bear firearms and demonstrate proficiency.
  • Substance abuse testing per regulations.
