System Development Engineer, STRADA – Service Transformation & Deployment Automation
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Linux/Unix Systems Administrator/Engineer with strong systems administration skill, shell scripting, and proficiency in at least one development language. The role focuses on automating day‑to‑day tasks and developing software/services from the ground up.
DescriptionAs a System Development Engineer in the AWS Infrastructure Services team, you will help deliver and maintain the tools and systems that support AWS global infrastructure, including US Gov Cloud and other US Government air‑gapped regions. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive improvement of systems and services, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and troubleshoot network tools and systems used by US Government projects.
- Deploy, validate, and test new versions of systems and subcomponents.
- Stand up new services and tools, including monitoring and incident‑correlation workflows.
- Collaborate with internal Software Development teams to improve systems scope.
- Document issues, investigate root causes, and create scalable solutions.
- Quickly diagnose and fix critical system failures under pressure.
- Manage and grow production‑quality tools, working with languages such as Python, Perl, Ruby, Shell, Java.
- Investigate complex technical issues scientifically and prevent recurrence.
- Understand modern, cloud‑hosted application stacks end‑to‑end.
- Provide technical solutions to real business problems in a global organization.
- 3+ years of professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of design or architecture experience for new and existing systems.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language.
- Current active US Government Security Clearance TS/SCI with Polygraph.
- 3+ years of full software development lifecycle experience (coding, reviews, source control, build, testing).
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
- Work 24×7 on‑call rotation and travel to data center/sites as needed.
- Maintain high alertness and attention to detail while seated during scheduled hours.

Compensation & BenefitsBase pay ranges from $129,300/year to $223,600/year depending on market location. Additional compensation may include equity, sign‑on bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
