Department: Machine Shop Reports To: Director of Machining
SUMMARY: The Machine Shop Supervisor directs and coordinates activities of the CNC Machining Department in safety, materials management, productivity, job order management, scheduling and personnel management. The supervisor prepares work schedules, delegates workflow, ensures machine function and output meet specifications and quality standards, monitors and evaluates production records, and reports findings to management. The role includes training machine operators and machinists.

- Oversee daily functions of the CNC Machining department.
- Provide personnel with work assignments and maintain a constant workload.
- Work directly with personnel to provide instruction and guidance.
- Identify training needs and provide required training.
- Verify that all preceding operations are signed off before assigning a job.
- Schedule jobs to run by priorities set on the production board and coordinate with the production manager to maintain a smooth workflow.
- Ensure new jobs are programmed and special tooling for any job is identified and ordered in advance.
- Identify production/quality problems and determine root causes.
- Train department personnel in basic quality procedures, work instructions, and relevant documents.
- Verify that all first‑piece inspections are performed and approved.
- Ensure all department personnel keep their work area and machines clean, coolant levels are maintained, and chips are removed from machines and areas at shift end or job completion.
- Verify that all company inspection equipment and tools in the department are calibrated.
- Ensure all jobs are identified with a job number.
- Adhere to all safety policies and ensure proper eye and hearing protection is used by all team members under supervision.
- Responsible for team member clocking and time‑card review.
- Perform all functions of the job while adherent to established quality policies and procedures.

Directly supervises team members in the CNC Machining department. This includes interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining team members, and resolving complaints and problems.
Qualifications- Must be able to operate the department machines with minimal instruction.
- Must be capable of reading and understanding drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Must have strong leadership skills and ability to train team members.
- Must be capable of programming when required.
- Works with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Adaptable to a changing work environment and competing demands.
- Prioritize activities and work under pressure.
- Comply with safety procedures.
- Identify root causes of problems.
- Open to change and continuous improvement.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
The role requires standing, walking, using hands and fingers, lifting up to 50 pounds, reading, and other typical tasks for a machine shop supervisor. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
Work EnvironmentExposure to moving mechanical parts, hot or cold work environments, chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, loud noise, electrical shock, vibration, and extreme temperatures may occur. Personal protective equipment may be required.

- Computer skills:
Outlook, Excel, Word, ERP and payroll time‑tracking software.
High school diploma or GED; 2 years related experience or equivalent combination.
Language and Mathematical SkillsBasic safety and manufacturing instruction understanding; ability to perform basic arithmetic to four decimal places.
