About this position
SUMMARY:
The Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist III role produces precision machined components to engineering specifications. The CNC Machinist III is responsible for setting up and operating one or more types of computer numeric controlled production equipment using approved programs. The CNC Machinist III may make minor or major changes to fixturing and/or offsets ensuring components meet specification. They may set up and train CNC Machinist I and/or CNC Machinist II ensuring setup and Team Member achieve acceptable first piece.
They will troubleshoot setups from other CNC Machinists and mentor best practices thereafter. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring our custom‑made parts are ready for the production floor at the highest quality, while maintaining the safety and quality standards upheld by company procedures and guidelines. - Perform all work in a manner safe for you and fellow team members, in compliance with Vitesse System safety policies.
- Follow all quality procedures, work instructions, and documents pertaining to your job and department.
- Log into job operation promptly after assignment and log out upon completion, including quantity completed.
- Verify that all company and personal inspection equipment and tools being used are in calibration.
- Maintain a clean machine and immediate work area.
- Verify sufficient stock issued to each job.
- Clean chips from the machine at the end of each shift or when the job is finished.
- Verify that material and paperwork for the job being performed is correct.
- Follow machine warm‑up and cool‑down protocols at the beginning of the day and between jobs.
- Verify no chips on jaws or fixture or on part/material to be machined.
- Load the part/material, verify proper seating in the fixture/jaws, snug against any pops before clamping.
- Unload parts, deburr and remove FOD.
- Inspect all finished products for precision and accuracy to part drawings and workmanship specifications.
- Identify non‑conformance; notify supervisor so it can be documented, dispositioned, and segregated from the remainder of the lot.
- Identify discrepant material; notify supervisor for disposition before the next job.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks (lubrication, cleaning, tool replacement) to ensure machine longevity.
- At operation completion, record total quantity count, MDR numbers, Team Member number, and date on the route sheet.
- Notify supervisor immediately of any problems or safety concerns before or during any operation.
- Set part fixture in machine, tram and zero out datum per program or setup sheet.
- Select tooling from program or setup sheets; set cutting tool heights.
- Load tools into machine per program sequence and set offsets.
- Walk part‑through program, checking features as the program runs, adjusting to bring part into specification for first‑piece.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Adhere to established quality policies and procedures and uphold company core values.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS- Knowledge and experience necessary for the position.
- Ability to operate various machines within the department with minimal instruction.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Reading and understanding drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Inspect parts while machining.
- Measure with vernier caliper, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Follow instructions and procedures with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication (written and oral) and problem‑solving skills.
- Adaptability to a changing work environment and competing demands.
