About this position

The Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist IV produces precision machined components to engineering specifications. The CNC Machinist IV is responsible for setting up and operating one or more types of computer numeric controlled production equipment using approved programs. The role may make minor or major changes to fixturing and/or offsets to ensure components meet specification, set up and train CNC Machinists I–III, troubleshoot setups from other machinists, and mentor best practices.

This position plays a crucial role in ensuring custom‑made parts are ready for the production floor at the highest quality while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all work in a manner that is safe for yourself and fellow team members and complies with Vitesse System safety policies.
  • Follow all quality procedures, work instructions, and documents pertaining to your job and department.
  • Log in to job operation promptly after assignment and log out upon completion including quantity completed.
  • Verify that all company and personal inspection equipment and tools being used are calibrated.
  • Keep the machine and immediate area clean.
  • Verify sufficient stock is issued to the job.
  • Clean chips from the machine at the end of your shift or when the job is finished.
  • Verify that material and paperwork for the job being performed are correct.
  • Follow machine warm‑up and cool‑down protocols at the beginning of the day and between jobs.
  • Ensure no chips are present on jaws/fixtures or on the part/material to be machined.
  • Load the part/material, verify proper seating in the fixture/jaws, and ensure a snug fit before clamping or tightening jaws.
  • Unload parts from the machine, deburr, and remove foreign object debris.
  • Inspect finished products for precision and accuracy against part drawings and workmanship specifications.
  • Identify non‑conformance, notify your supervisor, and document disposition.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks such as lubrication, cleaning, and tool replacement.
  • At completion of operation, record total quantity on the route sheet with MDR numbers, Team Member number, and date.
  • Notify your supervisor immediately of any problems or safety concerns before or during an operation.
  • Set part fixture in machine, tram and zero out datum according to program and/or setup sheet.
  • Select tooling from program and/or setup sheets and set cutting tool heights.
  • Load tools into machine per program sequence and set offsets.
  • Walk part through program, checking features as the program runs, and make adjustments to bring the part into specification for first‑piece acceptance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience necessary for the position.
  • Ability to operate various machines within the department with minimal instruction.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Capability to read and understand drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Ability to inspect parts being machined.
  • Skill in measuring with vernier caliper, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Follow instructions and procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and oral communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Adaptability to a changing work environment and competing demands.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills.

Must interact effectively and cooperatively with Team Members at all levels, complete assignments within specified time frames, be flexible regarding working hours and overtime, and operate in a fast‑paced environment handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience with CNC type machine setup & operation & diagnostics.
  • 7+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in an AS9100 environment preferred.
