Pharmacy Technician
I. Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy and the pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician maintains records, transcribes orders, and prepares medication to be dispensed for patients.
II. Duties and Responsibilities- Fill medications entered by pharmacists.
- Dispense and provide proper medication to be delivered to nursing station in a prompt and timely manner.
- Insure medications are replaced in Omnicell cabinets and drawers for nursing convenience.
- Maintain established inventory levels.
- Communicate with nursing staff on medication orders.
- Monthly floor checks.
- Biweekly Omnicell checks for medication reconciliation (e.g., waste, returns, etc).
- Individual area checks appointed by Dept. Head for expired and missing medication to be replaced.
- Various filing and reports appointed by Dept. Head.
- Maintenance of lost charges file.
- Automatic stop orders.
- Communicate with director about direct supplies.
- Retrieve out of stock, or non-formulary medicines from outside of hospital pharmacy and keep documents relating to these activities current.
Minimum of high school education or GED preferred. Must be able to use calculator and computer.
IV. Qualifications and ExperiencePharmacy experience preferred but not required. Must be able to communicate with other staff, pay attention to detail and accuracy, and prioritize workload. Must be registered with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician.
